Today is Valentine’s Day! Does your retirement plan need some love?

Happy Valentine’s Day! This time of year we should all be expressing how much we care for our loved ones.

But have you shown your retirement plan the love and attention it deserves too?

Probably not.

Almost all retirees and pre-retirees are concerned to some degree about their long term financial future in retirement; however surveys have indicated that Americans aren’t giving their retirement plan the same amount of consideration that they give to life’s less critical decisions.

A recent survey of 1000 retirement savers revealed that more than half had spent five hours or more doing research the last time they purchased a car. Additionally, 39% of those surveyed said they spent more than 5 hours researching their next vacation destination. Meanwhile, only about 11% of those surveyed had spent the same 5 hours of time researching their 401(k) investment options.

I can understand the resistance some of these people must feel to planning for their retirement. Concerns about health care, long-term care, inflation and running out of money in retirement are not fun to think about.

But, the good news is that with the right financial advisor these concerns can be addressed, restoring your overall confidence and peace of mind about the future. A recent survey by the Insured Retirement Institute show that baby-boomers with financial advisors are twice as likely to feel confident about their retirement savings as those without an advisor.
